Leonese athletics once again shone in a great national competition. The long distance runners Raúl Celada and Jorge Blanco signed a great role in the Spanish long-distance Championship, in the 10,000-meter test, held in Torrevieja (Alicante), where Celada was bronze and Blanco touched that podium position.
It was a rapid test where the two Leonese not only fought for the national title: in both cases they achieved their personal best in the distance and achieved the minimum for the European cup of the distance, to be held on June 5 in Birmingham (United Kingdom).
With the usual daring style of the Maragato and Leonese, they stood up to the strong rhythm of the Burundian Thierry I have it, who did the first 7,000 meters of high level but ended up abandoning, to leave the head of the race to ‘Chiki’ Pérez, which would end up achieving the national title (27: 59.45).
Fighting for silver with two personal records
From behind appeared Jesus Ramos (28: 23.89) and very close to Madrid, the Leonese duo with Raúl Celada (28: 25.10) hanging the bronze and Jorge Blanco (28: 25.76) signing a great performance and a new personal record.
These four athletes, along with Red Iago (28: 31.85) have achieved this minimum for Birmingham European Cup which will be held in almost two months and with which both Celada and Blanco dream of defending the colors of Spain.
In the final B of 10,000 meters, in search of a good place in the under-23 classification, he started Sergio Alegre, but the Leonese could not finish the test.
