easyJet is preparing for the new summer season and does so by opening its new seasonal base at Malaga-Costa del Sol airport. This will allow the airline to better respond to the increased demand resulting from the reopening of tourism in the different European countries.
The new base became operational on June 1 and joins those that easyJet already has in Barcelona and Palma de Mallorca, thus consolidating the company’s presence in Spain.
easyJet will have a total of 12 aircraft on the peninsula, where it already has 400 local contract employees. The airline also announced its new route to Birmingham and also adds 14 routes to the most attractive European destinations such as London, Berlin, Amsterdam, Paris, Geneva, among others.
As is customary in these celebrations, the arrival of the aircraft at the airport began the inaugural event, in which the highest representatives of the airline and the authorities of the region participated, who later participated in the debate on the round table «Reinventando el turismo».
At this discussion table, the different participants took place to express their views on the matter.
For its part, Javier Gándara, easyJet director for southern Europe, expressed how important this new seasonal base in Malaga is for the airline and the opportunity to continue expanding in the country, where they are the fourth largest airline. It also warns of the possibility of new bases due to the progressive reopening of tourism and the repressed demand that this entails.
The different local authorities gave rise to the analysis of how Malaga, Costa del Sol and Andalusia as a whole can benefit from this new seasonal base, which allows the Spanish city to have better connectivity with the international market, and they have also highlighted the pillars that make this region a great attractive tourist destination.
